Location

The park is located 2km Southwest from the City centre, which lies the of Lake Victoria(Latitude 2.5 S and Longitude 32 E)

Getting there

Saanane Island National Park is accessed by boat. One can travel by air to Mwanza Airport from either DAR, KIA NAIROBI and Dar, ENTEBE. By road to Mwanza City from Dar, Kigoma, Tabora. By ferry to Mwanza port from Uganda, Bukoba and Nearby Islands. All these way will lead you to Mwanza City. From there you will need a short drive or walk to the entry gate to the Park.

To do

Boat excursion Lake Victoria can be arranged on request. Rock hiking, Picnic sites, Game viewing and Bird Watching along the shores of Lake and on rocks.

Walking along the designated trails, Canoeing along the Lake with local boats (dhows), can be arranged through Tour operators in Mwanza City.

Best time visit

All year round. Trough June-August is the best time when its dry for picnic

Also September-December when short rains starts the vegetations acquire greenish color which attracts many visitors.

Accommodation

Mwanza City is full of Tourist Hotels. Hotel Tilapia located adjacent to the Park along the Kirumba Valley in the City, Christmas tree Hotel in the heart of the City centre, Isamilo lodge, Tunza lodge along Airport road at Ilemela, just to name a few and many guest houses and one Hotel at Nyakahoja Parish.

Also in the Island there are Resting Huts where visitors can rest.
